Akshit Vekariya, who plays for the Hawthorn Cricket Club and is proudly sponsored by Small Business Society has had a solid start to the season.
Consistent performance in the club’s 2nd XI saw him break into the 1st XI where he has been a valued contributor. Akshit is an opening bowler, and has taken 11 wickets at an average of 14.55 including a standout haul of 4/30 against Richmond City. This is extremely effective bowling by any standards.
Akshit has also been coaching one of the club’s junior teams, where he has made a great impact and been well responded to by both players and parents. As an overall, the Hawthorn Cricket Club has made a positive start to the season.
The 1st XI currently sit 2nd on the ladder and have an opportunity to consolidate a finals position after Christmas. The 2nd XI won 5 of their first 6 games, but now sit 5th on the ladder and hope to move back into the top 4 in the latter half of the season. The 3rd and 4th XI have been challenged by player shortages, but have been honourable in defeat and sit just outside the top 4. The 5th XI have had an influx of players new to the club, which is fantastic to see. They currently sit 2nd on the ladder as they eye off a top 2 finish.
As a whole, the club has struggled to field 5 teams at times and are always open to new players who want to commit to consistent cricket.
